Add an assignment

Select 'Assignment' from the Add Learning Elements button located at the bottom of the page .

Write assignments and set detailed conditions

Enter the assignment title in the Assignment Name field [1].

In the assignment description area, you can add images, text, links, formulas, or media using the rich content editor [2].

You can attach files by registering them in the file attachment item [3].

Score setting

In the Grade field [4] , enter the score you want to assign as assignment.

Choose how grades are displayed

From the Show grades drop-down menu, select the type you want to use to grade. You can choose from Score, Percent, Complete / Incomplete, Alphamet Grade, GPA Grade, or No Score.

Note  : The grade display type is the way scores are displayed in assignment scores. For example, an allocation of 10 points is set to display as a percentage.

Students who score 8/10 of their work will be marked 80 on their report cards.

Select submission type

From the submission type  drop-down menu, select the submission type for your assignment.  By default, the submission type is set to online.

  • Online submission is when you want students to submit their assignments using Canvas.
  • Offline submission is when you want students to submit an assignment to you but not through LMS. This assignment type applies to traditional face-to-face courses or hybrid courses when you want the assignment turned in during class, but you still want to create a column in the Gradebook for grading purposes.

Assignment settings are persistent to always remember and display settings created or edited from previous assignments in the course.  Depending on previous assignments, one or more of these options may already be selected.

Note  : Assignments and assignment assignments remain visible to students on the Assignments page.  To avoid confusion, it is best to take notes on the description of the task. Students will know whether a submission is required. If so, you will also know how to submit it.

Confirm submission deadline and availability settings

Deadline

Check the deadline to submit the assignment from the start of the reading to the due date [7].

You can submit assignments after the deadline, but they will be listed as tardy submissions.

If the start date and period are set using the weekly units batch creation, this period information is displayed as the default of the start date / end date. If you need to adjust your submission deadline or access end date, you can do so.

The view end date is empty by default, but you can set a point in time if you don't want to submit assignments after that point.
